Hi, thanks for stopping by!
I'm Steward Melvin Tang (鄧智祥), an indie game developer passionate about creating interactive video game experiences. My journey began when I was 11, tinkering with my dad's laptop, watching YouTube tutorials, and experimenting with different software. Out of curiosity, I built my first simple game in Unity. And from that moment, I was hooked.
In high school, I majored in software engineering at SMK Raden Umar Said Kudus,
one of the top vocational schools in Indonesia. This is where I honed my programming and leadership skills. I released my first game (DelayedSun) and co-founded Homesick Games, a development team of 22 members from various fields, including programming, art, design, and music. Together, we worked on multiple projects and successfully released Protect My Cheese on Steam. We also won the IGSI Game Jam 2022 as The Best Creative Game Awards and nominated in The Lazy Game Awards 2022 as The Best Indonesian Newcomers. The experience taught me invaluable lessons about teamwork, project management, and game publishing.
Along the way, I had the opportunity to join internships, contribute to game dev communities, and share my experiences through podcasts and seminars. I specialize in Unreal Engine, working with both Blueprint and C++. Over the years, I've published several titles on Steam, won multiple awards and game jams, and even contributed to the development of Coral Island, one of the best life-sim games out there. I also run a YouTube Channel where I create Unreal Engine tutorials for begineer developers. So if you're interested in learning game development, feel free to check it out! A subscribe would mean a lot to me.
Currently, I'm pursuing a bachelor's degree at National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan, expecting to graduate in 2027. Studying here has broadened my knowledge in computer science. I've learned how computers actually work, how to solve coding problems using data structures and algorithms, how to build and train machine learning models, and how to optimize code for efficiency. I've also expanded my skills in Unity game development. Of course, life here comes with ups and downs. Many exams, late-night studying, and less free time. But every experience has helped me grow, both as a developer and as a person.
For me, game development is more than just coding, it's about crafting experiences that connects with the players. I love bringing ideas to life and creating something people can truly enjoy. As I continue my journey, I'm always experimenting, learning and pushing myself to be a better person in the future.
Thanks again for reading through my boring life story, let's make someting amazing together!
